ASDA Reaches Out
Jon Schubert![]() |
ASDA community outreach is off to an amazing start, so a big thank you to all of the students who have volunteered so far this semester! To date, dental students have served in a variety of ways and in many settings. These include handing out toothbrushes and toothpaste at the Children's museum, helping out with the non-profit clinic Dental Aid's black-tie dinner, giving oral health education to nurses/the elderly/many Denver Public School (DPS) families, and a DPS elementary school visit by Sammy the Sabertooth Tiger. In fact, students have spent over 50 hours in the community in October and November!

For those of you who have not yet made it out to an outreach event, we look forward to seeing you at one of our many upcoming events, all of which can earn you some sweet ACTS credits! These upcoming events include Adopt-a-Highway trash pick up and of course the always exciting Crest Healthy Smiles, which will be put on in conjunction with the Boys and Girls club. So come on out and spend some time with your fellow dental students in the Denver community! Also, feel free to pass along outreach ideas to your ASDA representatives and if you are really excited about it, join us at the monthly meetings. Keep up the amazing service!
Let the Balls Fly Dodgeball Tourney
Sonia Kumar![]() Ready, Set, Go! |
ASDA held their 5th semi-annual dodgeball tournament this October, which proved to be a blast...living up to the high standard set in the previous years. After a week of bitter coldness and speculation of potentially having to cancel, it turned out to be a beautiful warm sunny day, i.e. perfect for dodgeball! Balls went flying, music was blasting, and everyone who came out had a good time. The winners of this year's tournament were the “Fighting War Gerbils” from the School of Pharmacy. Its about time they won, as they have continuously participated in our tournaments for the past few years! The first year dental students were quite impressive with their innovative costumes and enthusiasm by bringing 4 teams to the tournament this year. Best dressed overall went to Maddy Saunders...now that is the spirit we like to see people bust out for dodgeball!
