Meet CU's New Faculty: Dr. Adriana Lamounier

Alison Fronczak

Frequently seen on the clinic floor is Brazilian born Dr. Lamounier. Students say they appreciate her relaxed and positive attitude in the clinic. In fact, she is such a dedicated faculty member that she commutes from Fort Collins everyday.

Education:
Dental degree earned from Brazil's University of Santo Amaro.
AEGD earned from the University of Connecticut at Chicago.

Q & A

So what inspires Dr. Lamounier to take on this commute?
After her AEGD, Dr. Lamounier taught at the University of Connecticut and it is from this experience she learnt she "really does like teaching."

What does she listen to during her commute?
"Deepak Chopra", a self development CD about the seven spiritual laws of success and "The Law of Attraction" about what a person wants out of their life.

Why Dr. Lamounier chose to be a dentist:
"I had braces when I was a child and was always asking questions." Both Dr. Lamounier?s parents are physicians. "I would see them go every time and knew I didn?t want this life. I am very glad I didn?t go to medical school."

What is dental school like in Brazil?
"In Brazil, students go to dental school right from high school. It takes five years."

What is it like treating patients in Brazil versus the U.S.?
"Compared to Brazil, patients here are very demanding. In Brazil patients respect the doctor a little more." The patient attitude difference she says is because "patients here are aware of what can be done. In Brazil, patients don?t know to ask for something better or if something can be done better. Patients here are more knowledgeable."

Most enjoyable experience at CU:
When the operative faculty have lunch together. They "have a good laugh. Dr. Berry is always cracking jokes. He is really funny."

Worst experience at CU:
"Lunch clinic."

Favorite activities:
"I like to ride my bike, golf and ski." The mountain she likes best is Jackson Hole where she "likes to ski blues, single diamond blacks but no moguls!"

For those students who need help with crowns, bridges and dentures you are in luck if you work under Dr. Lamounier because these are her favorite areas in dentistry!
